Another rough Thanksgiving..

Well, we've had another crummy Thanksgiving.
Tuesday, Mya started having substantial pain her head. The doctors told us to start treating her with Oxycodone. The pain continued all through Wednesday. It went away when she slept, thank goodness.
We went to my brother, Alex's who lives in Halifax, MA which is south of Boston for Thanksgiving. Both my brothers & my dad were there. It was so great to see everyone! All the kids (Mya & Alex's 3 girls), had so much fun. Mya didn't eat anything from the time she got up until we left at 5pm.

She struggled with pain in her head the whole time. She threw up just as we were sitting down to eat. Then she passed out for almost 45 minutes. Her walking was staggered as well. We called Dana Farber and got the on-call doctor. She wanted us to bring Mya in, so off we went.

Ray dropped us off at Boston Childrens, then went home with Gia. We got to the ER, was seen then waited for an MRI. We did the "fast version" of the test. This takes a picture, but isn't as detailed. I went into the machine with Mya. Let me tell you, I have a whole new appreciation for what she goes through each time she is given this test!! Afterwards, we went back to ER $ waited, & waited, & waited. The results came & showed that Mya has pressure in the ventricles of her brain. They think that there is a tumor pushing at the base of her head/top of her spine. We got admitted & Mya was given steroids to help with swelling/pressure. Around 1am, we were able to get some sleep.

This morning, we met with Dr. Manley. He looked at the brief scan & said we are on the list to get a full scan. If it shows a tumor at the base of head/top of spine, he wants to see if Radiology will agree to do targeted radiation to try to shrink it to give us more time. If the scan doesn't show much different, we will be given steroids & morphine for pain management and we will be released. Either way, we will be released today, only variable is when.

Hopefully, we will get in soon so we can go home! Thank you for all the well wishes & our 2 baby-sitters for Gia today!
Will post again soon, most likely when we are home.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!
