Bowling with Mya

posted Feb 25, 2014, 2:53 PM by FightingFor Mya

Our week was quiet, but good. We didn't have to go to Boston, so we had a visiting nurse come to the house to do the dressing change on Mya's picc line. On Saturday, Mya went to the grocery store. She walked through the whole store with me. That was impressive. She continues to gain strength each week.

On Sunday, we went to Dover Bowl where Heather Palmer and others had put together a Bowl-A-Thon to raise money for Mya. Our whole family went. We got a lane with some friends and tried to get Mya to bowl. She was a little reluctant. I got both of us some shoes and tried again. She saw her friend Dylan having a blast wizzing the balls down the lane, so she decided to give it a try. I helped her select a ball, then went out with her to the edge and coaxed her to roll the ball down the lane. She under dogged it and watched transfixed as it wobbled down towards the pins. When it struck and a few fell over, her face broke out into the biggest grin you have ever seen!!! She went straight back to the shoot to get another ball and then to the line to do it again. Over the next hour or so (with a break for some hotdogs), she sent ball after ball down the lane, trying to knock down as many pins as she could. We decided to head home just before 1pm, we needed to get Gia down for a nap and we needed something more substantial to eat than just a hotdog.

The Bowl-A-Thon was a great success because of all the people who came together to show their support for Mya and our family. As of Sunday evening, they raised almost $1,600.00!!! We have been so blessed with the multitudes of people who have selflessly given their time & dollars to support us in our time of need. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

This week, we go to Boston on Thursday for Avastin (chemo type drug). Really hoping the day goes smoothly and we are home early afternoon. For Saturday, I got tickets to the Boston Aquarium! I don't know about Mya, but I'm really excited! I haven't been there since I was in grade school I think! I'm trying to explain to her what she will see, but i'm not sure how much she understands. I'm sure she will love it! Need to find something else for the following weekend. I want to continue the voyage of exploration for Mya. I feel it's important that she experience as much of our world that we can give her.

Let's hope the snow holds off on Saturday! Hope everyone has a great week!
